AfterBurn In-House

AfterBurn works with organisations to create neuro-inclusive workplaces
for Neurodivergent Women, SEN Parents & Carers.

Often high achieving and deeply committed, they face higher risk of burnout, progression barriers or performance challenges when neurodivergence or caring responsibilities are poorly understood or unsupported. Organisations that build neuro-inclusive cultures improve retention, strengthen productivity and engagement, and reduce the risk of costly disputes.

AfterBurn combines senior organisational experience, coaching expertise and lived understanding to help organisations support and retain this talent. Delivery includes the Ignite In-House Group Programme and AfterBurn Insights Talks, aligned with organisational values, DE&I initiatives or leadership programmes.

Breaking the Hidden Neurodivergent Ceiling

Why neurodivergent women remain overlooked and the hidden cost to organisations

Many neurodivergent women are experienced, high-achieving professionals, yet their strengths are often overlooked. Despite strong performance and commitment, they can face invisible barriers to recognition and career progression.

Neurodivergent women often:

  • hesitate to put themselves forward

  • burn out before promotion

  • mask extensively

  • remain under-recognised despite impact

This session explores how leadership expectations and bias create an invisible ceiling, and how organisations can support in removing barriers.

Organisational benefit:

  • stronger leadership pipeline
  • better retention of experienced women
  • reduced mid-career attrition
  • stronger employer reputation

Leaders will learn to recognise the invisible barriers experienced by neurodivergent women and the cultural changes needed to retain experienced talent and strengthen diverse leadership.

Neurodivergent Women in the Workplace

Why presentation differs in women and why it matters for your organisation

Neurodivergent women may:

  • mask extensively
  • internalise stress
  • overcompensate
  • performance–burnout cycles

This session explores the differences in presentation for neurodivergent women, the impact of late recognition and the support to enables success.

Organisational benefit:

  • reduced burnout risk

  • improved manager understanding

  • stronger team engagement

  • improved psychological safety

Attendees will gain insight into how neurodivergence presents differently in women, the impact of late recognition, and how organisations can better recognise and provide better support within the workplace.

Embracing SEN Parent Strengths in the Workplace

Understanding the transferable skills of SEN parents within the workplace

Parents of children with Special Educational Needs manage complex responsibilities alongside careers. Without the right understanding or flexibility, organisations risk losing experienced staff with invaluable transferrable strengths.

SEN Parents often wear 'many hats':

  • advocacy and research
  • system navigation

  • managing unpredictability

  • negotiation under pressure

Without understanding, employees can feel unseen or forced to leave their career. Yet they bring individual  experiences that are invaluable to organisations.

Organisational benefit:

  • stronger engagement and loyalty
  • improved staff retention

  • recognition of transferable skills

  • increased manager confidence

Attendees will gain insight into how organisations can better support SEN parents at work and recognise the problem-solving and advocacy skills they bring to teams and the wider organisation.

"Anna is empathetic, calm and holds space for you, allowing you to explore your experiences at a comfortable pace, coming away feeling more confident about the steps to take next.  She helped me to build effective methods to navigate my neurodivergence whilst building self-belief.  I now enjoy a more positive, enriched life because of Anna's support."
