Your Questions Answered

Here are some common questions about coaching.

If something isn't covered, you can use the comments box below.

What is coaching and how can it help me?

Coaching is a supportive conversation that helps you think clearly, understand yourself better, and decide what you want to do next.

We explore your experiences together to support you in finding your own direction with support.

What does an individual coaching session look like?

Usually we will first talk about the emotional space you are in that day, before focussing on want to explore. This might be a pattern you are noticing, a decision you are facing, or something you want to understand better.

Sessions often end with greater clarity and a sense of what you want to move forward, and the actions you will take to get there.

What is the difference between coaching, mentoring and therapy?

Therapy often focuses on mental health treatment and past experiences, usually with a qualified counsellor, psychologist or psychotherapist.

Mentoring usually involves a person who has experience of your situation, providing advice or guidance.

Coaching creates a safe space for you to explore, reflect, and arrive at your own understanding and decisions through targeted coaching questions, with a qualified coach.

What if coaching isn't the right support for me?

Coaching is not therapy, counselling, or crisis support and although I am a highly experienced qualified coach, I am not a qualified therapist.

If during coaching it becomes clear that therapeutic or clinical support may be more appropriate, I will always encourage you to explore this alongside or instead of coaching.

Coaching and therapy can complement one another, but they serve different purposes.

What is neurodiversity and neurodivergence?

Neurodiversity recognises that ALL people think, learn, and experience the world in different ways. Our brains are very individual to us.

Neurodiversity is sometimes used to describe neurodivergence.
Neurodivergent people experience and process the world differently and includes autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia, among others.

What age is considered a late neurodivergent discovery?

Late neurodivergence diagnosis or discovery does not refer to a specific age.

It simply means recognising your neurodivergence later than expected. This could be in your late teens, twenties, thirties, forties, or beyond.

Do I need a neurodivergent diagnosis to work with you?

No. Coaching is open to people who are diagnosed, exploring assessment, self-identified, or simply questioning their experiences.

Who are the AfterBurn Coaching Programmes for?

I primarily work with women navigating late neurodivergent discovery and the identity, work, and life questions that often follow.

People of all genders are welcome to enquire if this work resonates and would like to explore whether coaching together would feel like a good fit.

Do you work with under 18s?

I primarily work with adults. However, I may work individually with young people aged 16+ where coaching is appropriate and not crisis or therapeutic support.

I am DBS checked and any work with young people would be discussed with parents or carers beforehand.

Do you offer in person coaching for Spark or Ignite?

Many neurodivergent individuals prefer to join individual and group coaching sessions online.

To support accessibility and flexibility all of AfterBurn Programmes and Insight Talks are delivered virtually only.

Are coaching sessions with you confidential?

Yes. What you share in sessions remains confidential within professional boundaries, unless you disclose information that suggests harm to yourself, others or illegal activity.

How many coaching session do I need?

The Spark Individual Coaching Programme is offered as a package of 4 x 60 minute sessions, usually once a fortnight. However you can continue with individual sessions if you feel this is beneficial for you, as long as you wish, unless I feel the coaching relationship is no longer beneficial to you.

The Ignite Group Coaching Programme is a 6-week programme, of 90 minute sessions every week, delivered in a small cohort.

I'm still unsure coaching is the right choice for me?

This is very common!

A short introductory conversation gives you space to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether this feels like the right space for you.

If you would like to start with a conversation, you can book a complimentary 15-minute call.

Have another question?
